To make you feel good on the inside, while looking great on the outside. Our mission from the start was to make a quality item for everybody to wear. We are committed to the environment and we produce sustainable clothing using pioneering techniques and eco-friendly materials. All our effort and time goes into listening to our customer’s feedback and working closely with our factories. With all these insights, we have turned an eco-friendly item into a must-have piece of clothing.
Our story
It was the 90’s and the Hemp fever was real. The hemp leaf was the most utilized symbol of the year and the top artists were all mentioning hemp in their lyrics. This is the context when Hemp Works was born, in 1993 when co-founders Adam Dunn (from New York) and Douglas Mignola (from San Francisco) met in Amsterdam.
We had similar mindsets and together started the first-ever hemp store in Europe: Hemp Works. Neither of us was from the fashion industry, but we had a great concept in mind: making a really good-looking hemp product that would also be eco-friendly. We had to learn fast and little by little
we turned our products into real urban Amsterdam icons.
The Hemp Works quickly gained worldwide recognition as “The epicenter of the Hemp Universe,” Robert C. Clarke. The Hemp Works jackets became the rockstar of our shop, and they started selling like hotcakes. You could even see well-known artists like Woody Harrelson, Redman, B-Real and Astro from UB40 wearing these jackets, and even Snoop Dogg dancing in his Hemp Works jacket in the snow on MTV.
Our Hemp Works, now Freshemp™ jackets, became local legends. They turned into a symbol of the city of Amsterdam at a time when eco products were not a real fashion item.

At Freshemp™ we don't like overproduction. We create slow fashion that is made to last for years. Therefore we only produce a limited quantity of Freshemp™ jackets each season. The result is a more balanced production, only using the necessary resources. This also means that our supply is limited.
